Grace Mugabe Packs in a Good Punch at Reporter

entrecard_avatar.jpg Sunday, 18 January 09 - 11:04 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

I know the two of them (the Mugabes) are capable of anything, but I had no idea they can still afford a five star holiday in Asia. “Richard Jones told The Associated Press that Grace Mugabe, 43, ordered a bodyguard to hold him down and then attacked him herself on Thursday near the Shangri-La hotel on Hong Kong’s Kowloon peninsula. “She directed several punches into my face,” Jones said. “She was wearing diamond-encrusted rings, which caused a lot of lacerations.”

'Extravagant lifestyle'

He said they had planned to cover Mugabe's stay in Hong Kong to show the "obvious contrast between her extravagant lifestyle and the plight of people in Zimbabwe".

Sheridan said he had approached Mugabe in the hotel lobby shortly before the assault took place.

"I asked whether she's enjoying her stay. She looked stunned to be approached by a British journalist. Her lady friend denied she's Mrs Mugabe."

The Sunday Times said Mugabe's trip to Hong Kong was part of a Far East holiday with her family. She had been in Singapore with her husband before flying to Hong Kong on January 9, the report said.

Nearly half the population of Zimbabwe is dependent on food aid and a cholera epidemic has claimed more than 2 000 lives.

Wow, juicy stuff this. In any language. Read the full story at the Associated Press and News24.

Cosmetic Settlement - Dirty Little Secrets Cost Retailers $175 Million Worth of Free Cosmetics

entrecard_avatar.jpg Wednesday, 14 January 09 - 12:32 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

I always sensed these cosmetic giants were up to something dodgy but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Well, their dirty little secrets are out now and it's payback time as millions of shoppers will be eligible to receive free perfume, cologne, and makeup from the region's biggest department stores in January. The products - including high-end brands such as Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Christian Dior - will be given away to settle claims that department stores and designer brands violated antitrust laws and conspired to fix prices.

This particular Anti-Trust class action settlement against most major department stores will in addition to the $175 million giveaway, cost the department stores and cosmetics companies an agreed $24 million in attorney fees. The court order will also prohibit them from engaging in price-fixing schemes and certain marketing practices.

Stores participating in the settlement include: Bergdorf Goodman, Bergner's, Bloomingdale's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Dillard's, Gottschalks, Herberger's, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Parisian, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Younkers.

I've read a few articles on this, but the one that REALLY sums it up nicely (for me) is The Boston Globe.

But why do we use cosmetics anyway? Oftentimes, it is to conceal uneven skin tone; smooth out facial wrinkles; and the most problematic area, I find, is that little area on your face that sooo gives away your age and requires an Age Reversal Eye Cream to keep it in check.

Disney Marathon - Where the Smiles Outnumbered the Miles

entrecard_avatar.jpg Sunday, 11 January 09 - 09:24 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

The entry fee to run Goofy was $500 for husband and wife, which doesn't include hotel, transportation or food. Despite the economy being on the limp, runners are willing to pay the money. In Lake Buena Vista Saturday, the 2009 Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend attracted a record 17,000 — including 4,300 who are running both the half and today's full marathon — 39.3 miles in two days.

See how enthusiastic runners put in time and a half at Disney here

I've always been a great fan of Walt Disney, imagine all the smiles Disney has put on so many faces from all over the world over the years. Incredible! American Pie to Serve A Seventh Sequel?

Hollywood rumor has it that American Pie (the film franchise) is going to serve us with yet another helping of American Pie ... this time, dubbed American Pie 4 (a sequel to American Wedding), which adds to the list of six Pie movies thus far (1 and 2, Wedding, Band Camp, The Naked Mile and Beta House).

I'm waaaay past my teens but I do see (and appreciate) the humor in American Pie. Hoda Kotb: Venom Spews Out Of Control On the Today Show

entrecard_avatar.jpg Sunday, 11 January 09 - 12:11 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General
Egyptian-American TV presenter Hoda Kotb and co-host Kathie Lee Gifford contiunued a discussion with conservative author Ann Coulter on the apparent “venom” in her books. Kotb asked if Coulter’s style was “kind of like shock jock, shake the cage, freak everyone out, wake everybody up,” and later stated that she felt the tone of the conservative’s writing was “dripping with venom.” The two hosts focused Coulter’s take on single motherhood in her new book, as Matt Lauer had done in her earlier appearance on the NBC program.

I found this moment particularly priceless when Kotb brought up how the conservative author criticized some of the 9/11 widows, the so-called Jersey Girls: “You lost me when you were talking about the victims of 9/11 -- the wives....You called them ‘griefazillas -- I've never seen someone enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much.’ That kind of tone, those kind of words are -- it’s just a turn-off.”

Coulter answered that “these women were using their victimhood in order to make political points to attack a sitting president in a time of war, to take positions in a presidential election, and to use their victimhood to say no one -- don’t respond to me, I’m a victim....I mean, that is a microcosm of someone advancing while using victimhood as a shield.”

Read the full transcript of Coulter’s interview, which began 13 minutes into the 10 am Eastern hour of Wednesday’s Today show here!

Asher Roth: Chris Llewellyn Inflight Heroics With Suicide Bomber?

entrecard_avatar.jpg Saturday, 10 January 09 - 08:25 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

Yet again, inflight shenanigans and rapper heroics hit the front pages with this incredible saga involving Rapper Asher Roth’s bass player, Chris Llewellyn, who has spoken about how he helped to subdue a man who claimed he had a bomb during a flight to Los Angeles‘ LAX airport on Wednesday.

Only time will tell now as to whether the man was a nutter or a publicity seeking wannabe pop star who knew Llewellyn was on the flight and that through him he would become instantly famous (I can see the perfect plot for a novel here) -- for all the wrong reasons -- but had he been an unsigned recording artist maybe, just maybe, this would have been an opportune moment to look for a record deal with an equally overzealous publicity-starved pop svengali. With all the free publicity, who in their right mind would ever say no. I will be keeping a close eye on this.

Here's the link to the full article Asher Roth: Chris Llewellyn is a hero. Click Here!

On that note, and to round up this blog post, what I personally like about the Internet, nowadays, is that if you are an artist you can still get your music out there; get a FREE Website to promote your band and music; Sell your music online FREE (with no restrictive contracts); Compete in FREE Tournaments each month and expose your music to hundreds of new fans, get FREE reviews, and receive major recognition; Get FREE global airplay for your music on Internet Radio; Advertise your live gigs...FREE! It's simply AMAZING. There's more on this Here!

The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City to Cut 150 Positions

entrecard_avatar.jpg Saturday, 10 January 09 - 12:16 AM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

Whichever way you look at it, the layoffs and retrenchments are happening on a daily basis. The more high profile the business, the more likely we are to hear about them. The inevitability of the status quo renders one insecure and in a state of red alert to say the list. Who knows, you could easily be next on the chopping block. Nobody, and no industry is immune from this.

Oklahoma's second largest newspaper is laying off 28 employees, 26 of those in the newsroom, the paper announced Tuesday. In a statement to employees, Publisher Robert E. Lorton III said "the media business is not immune from economic realities, as evidenced by recent layoffs seen at our local TV and radio stations."

Lorton also cited a weakened local advertising market and high cost of newsprint.

"Just because this is the prudent business decision, it is not any less difficult," Lorton said of the cuts. "These co-workers have been part of our team and we will miss their contributions.

"It's a story that's been played out across the city and country as businesses are faced with the unpleasant responsibility of adjusting their payrolls in this harsh economic downturn." Read the full article here

Cheryl Holdridge Popular Mouseketeer Dies at 64

entrecard_avatar.jpg Friday, 09 January 09 - 09:53 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

I've just picked up this news on the death of Cheryl Holdridge. The beautiful blond actress who first gained fame as a Mouseketeer on TV's "The Mickey Mouse Club" in the 1950s, has died. She was 64. Holdridge died Tuesday at her home in Santa Monica after a two-year battle with lung cancer, said Doreen Tracey, another former Mouseketeer.

"What's amazing is that Cheryl and I have gone through so many things together, I'm glad I could have been there in the end too," Tracey said Thursday.

Holdridge was 11 years old in the spring of 1956 when she auditioned and was hired for "The Mickey Mouse Club," which had debuted on Oct. 3, 1955, with 24 talented youngsters who sang and danced and yet came across as the kids next door.

Holdridge joined the Mouseketeers in the second season of the show, which ran until 1959. Read the full article here.

Macy's Store Closings: A Predictable Outcome

entrecard_avatar.jpg Friday, 09 January 09 - 02:17 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

Macy’s this morning announced the closing of 11 stores, a move that came after a rough holiday season. Macy’s also said Thursday that same-store sales for December fell 4%, amid what it called “the most challenging economic environment in memory.

Here’s a list of the 11 Macy’s stores that are slated to close.

The closures represent a small proportion of Macy’s 860 total stores. Nevertheless, barring a miracle of credit or influx of mall-hungry tourists, the move probably preempts more closures.

Where will all the mall rats go now? They'll likely go shop online at
MaxMalls!

How to Improve Your Article Proofreading Skills in 3 Simple Steps

entrecard_avatar.jpg Sunday, 21 December 08 - 05:23 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

You've worked your way through an article, an essay, a book... with the written word, but what comes next is perhaps even more hard work in terms of making your piece more readable. To achieve this, you'll want to ensure that it flows well, and that it is grammatically correct and free of typographical errors; has good diction; and succinctly delivers the message you want delivered. You'll need to proofread your work! This article will offer tips on how to improve your proofreading in 3 simple steps.

Whenever I write, it is the proofing that takes up the bigger chunk of my time. Indeed, it takes me more man hours to proofread than it does to write. But I enjoy it, so it is a joy to do ... for me. But I am well aware that it isn't everybody's cup of tea. So unless you're going to hire someone to proof your work -- which can be costly, the next best thing is to learn how to do it yourself -- but, more meticulously and with less stress and frustration on your part.

Writing is fun. I've always enjoyed writing and that's why I took it up as a profession. But what defines a good writer and sets you apart from the rest of the pack is a well written article devoid of the typos, inappropriately thrown-together words, and clumsy sentences that neither sit nor flow well with the piece. They're easy to spot during the proofing phase of assembling your article. This is where you get to clean up your work so that it is well refined and enjoyable to read.

You should begin by putting all of your ideas down on paper, or as the case may be, on your computer. You need the idea behind the piece you're working on to be laid out on an assembly line so that you have the entire story you want to tell right in front of you. This will enable you to objectively evaluate your article's content. As you write, don't stop to think. If you can help it. Get everything you want to say written down. That should be your first objective. Once you've completed your article, it is time to dissect it piece by piece to see how it reads, and most importantly, how it delivers your message.

As you read through it the first time, you'll want to correct typos, missing words, sentences and phrases that don't cut the mustard, so to speak, and so forth. And don't be afraid to add new material to your content during this process. Ideas will spring to mind ... stick them in before you forget, and keep going as you continually review your work. I use the word 'continually' here because to be thorough with your proofreading you will have to reread your article many times. Don't make the mistake of limiting yourself to a limited number of rereads. I've reread my work over a hundred times -- in some instances -- just to get it right. It get's easier with time, and you get more proficient with time. Focus on getting it right. That should be your primary goal.

The final phase in your proofreading should aim to improve the quality of your article. This is where you prune out words and phrases that sound a bit repetitive (or could be phrased differently to sound better); and where you pay due diligence to refining your punctuation... as nothing brings the written word to life more expressively than good punctuation. What I like about the English language is that there are so many different ways of saying the same thing. It is a very colorful language, so the more you express yourself using well thought through prose, the more your readership will be entertained and impressed with your work.

How to Beat the Blues Using Effective MLM Systems

entrecard_avatar.jpg Saturday, 06 December 08 - 12:21 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

The concept of multi-level marketing or MLM has always been the subject of heated debates. For so many years now since its inception, MLM continues to reap doubts and uncertainties. This is because MLM has previously been linked with pyramid scams.

In spite of these things, many people still believe in MLM. For those who wish to earn additional income, MLM is a great home based business.

The fact that the MLM industry continuously grows and proliferates the market, more and more people are enticed to try this particular kind of endeavor.

And with the growing popularity of residual income, solicitations to join the bandwagon are utmost urgency. Here, there, and everywhere, many people are asked to join a particular network of dedicated sellers and marketers.

However, no one can simply surmise the fact that success in MLM is still dependent on the kind of MLM systems that you will choose. As they say, not all MLM systems and programs were created equal.

Hence, it is important to identify if a particular MLM system can work best for you. You need to detect important factors required in a good and effective MLM system. Here is the list:

1. Marketing tools

A good MLM system must possess effective marketing tools. After all, this is what MLM is all about marketing.

Marketing tools should include various means to help every MLM marketer overcome the start up blues as well as maintain their account. These marketing tools may consist of telephone scripts, autoresponder series, audio devices, display ads, and websites.

As much as these marketing tools can effectively support the individual in managing his or her MLM business, it is important that these tools were all set up by the experts so that marketers may use these tools as is.

2. Recruiting System and Generating leads

MLM is not all about products and services. What most people do not realize is that the major profit in MLM can be found in the leads. Without a good lead, you can never find people who are more than willing to buy your product. Hence, generating leads is extremely important.

There are many websites that can provide you with effective leads. Just take into consideration your MLMís products and services and pattern your leads to your needs.

Another most important tool in evaluating and choosing the best MLM system is the recruiting aspect. What most people do not know is that the main source of profits in MLM is mostly focused on residual income. Hence, the creation of downlines is of utmost importance.

Included in the recruitment process is the lead generation. With a good MLM system, generation of leads is easy and credible. A good MLM system lets you generate leads that can be used for your transactions as well as generating residual income.

Hence, aside from generating sales leads, you can also build your own effective downline. MLM systems help you create downlines not by quantity but by quality. This means that you do not simply recruit people just to earn more. With a good MLM system, you get quality downlines that will work as effectively as you did.

The point here is that MLM systems can work as effectively as you want based on the aspects presented within the system. Everything is collaborated into one single scheme.

The Most Guarded MLM Secret 6 Promises That Will Work Wonders

entrecard_avatar.jpg Friday, 05 December 08 - 12:16 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

The best and safest way to recruit MLM prospects is not to make any promises to them, especially if you're not sure anyway you can keep them. Making no promises, however, is usually insufficient to keep your MLM prospect's attention. As such, you may have to entice them with a promise or two and dangle some bait in front their noses to effectively persuade them to do what you want.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP WORKING.

People always like the idea of having another job or possible source of income without having to quit their jobs. This promise appeals specifically to those who are happy with their current jobs but find their pay insufficient or those who don't wish to join the unemployed ranks once more in order to take advantage of another career or financial opportunity.

YOU CAN STOP WORKING IF YOU WANT.

If you don't think the previous promise appeals to your present MLM prospect, it's possible that this second promise would. Some people on the other hand would love to take advantage of an opportunity that will allow them to stop working in their present dead-end jobs.

I'M ASKING YOU TO PAY LESS THAN THE REQUIRED INVESTMENT IN (?).

Only a few works as effectively as comparing your MLM proposal with other MLM companies and creating positive results. If you know of any MLM company that asks for a higher amount of capital to join, thereís nothing wrong about mentioning it to your MLM prospect.

With that in mind, your MLM prospect will likely prefer to work with you than other MLM companies because youíre asking for a smaller amount of money but promising equal or even greater results!

I'M SELLING YOU SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE BORN TO SELL EFFORTLESSLY.

In this case, you'll need to exercise your judgment of character a bit in order to pull this off successfully. Firstly, try mentally listing down the strengths and weaknesses of the person before you ñ your MLM prospect in other words. Now, find a direct link to both strengths and weaknesses to your MLM proposal.

Explain how his strengths will make it easy for him to sell your MLMs products or recruit other members. Then, explain to him how even his very own weaknesses will turn out to be blessings in disguise as well when it comes to your MLM proposal.

I'M GOING TO PUT (?) DOWNLINES UNDER YOU TO HELP YOU START OUT.

Who wouldn't want to receive additional discounts and freebies? And that's more or less what you're offering to your MLM prospects. In exchange of their trust, you're willing to help them out by giving them a more solid foundation for their MLM career.

Again, make sure of course that you're able to deliver your promise faithfully and immediately.

I GUARANTEE YOU SUCCESS.

This is the biggest and hardest promise you make, so choose carefully for whom you wish to make this promise. Success largely depends on one's efforts and to a certain extent luck as well so be sure that you're making this promise to someone who's willing to work hard to reach his goals.

Of course, don't say any of those phrases especially the last one - if you don't mean them. If, however, youíre working for a truly great MLM company, chances are you won't find it extremely difficult to make those promises anyway.

How to Create an MLM Prospecting System That Really Works

entrecard_avatar.jpg Thursday, 04 December 08 - 10:00 AM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

Forget about the automated MLM prospecting systems that you see online. Although they can be effective to a certain extent, these MLM prospecting systems are generally better suited to people who are already doing well with their own version of MLM prospecting systems. Having an automated one is just like the bonus.

If, however, you still haven't gotten lucky creating your own brand of MLM prospecting system without the help of any software program, hereís what you should do:

Increase Your Network Size - Your network must constantly be expanding. Never rest on your laurels. Even if youíve got the highest number of friends in town, there are still millions of other people that you can befriend as well. Since MLM depends largely on the number of people you know and can convince to invest, you can also say that your profit potential is proportional to your network size. So work on that smile!

Know Your Product Like the Back of Your Hand - The products youíre selling are your main source of income. As such, itís important that you constantly update your knowledge of any news which might directly or indirectly affect your product. Constantly updating your knowledge will enable you to answer any questions your prospects may have about your products.

Be Assertive and Not Aggressive - There is a very huge difference between being assertive and aggressive but many people unfortunately fail to notice the difference. While making follow-up calls to your MLM prospects is certainly understandable and even expected of you, make sure that you don't end up being too pushy or violating rules of decency.

It's okay to do everything you can to attain your goal, but make sure that everything does not include attaining victory at the expense of other people.

Be Organized ñ Create a standard operating procedure (SOP) that encompasses everything from contacting prospects to making follow-up calls to making the final presentations or arguments to convince them to invest as well. Make sure that you also specify the number of days to serve as interval between each phase.

Mark your calendars accordingly if you set up any meeting or appointment with your MLM prospects. Be sure to remind them of your meeting two to three days before the agreed upon time and date.

Be Honest - Your reputation will grow stronger and become more credible if your MLM prospects know that you're not withholding any truths for them. If there's a need for you to lie about your MLM proposal, youíre better off joining another MLM company.

Matching Your Style with the Customer's - The customer is always right, so it's important that you adjust your recruitment strategy to match their preferences instead of having it the other way around. Since you're doing the recruiting, be prepared to make all the compromises!

Reflect on Your Actions - At the end of the day, review the actions you've taken and determine which steps contributed in your success or failure. Take note of what you've done right so that you can do it again. Take note of what you've done wrong and try to imagine what you could have done instead to gain a better outcome.

There's nothing wrong with availing of the services of an automated MLM prospecting system but you can only put it to better use if you're already capable of recruiting people without its help.

Network Marketing Secrets for the Uninitiated

entrecard_avatar.jpg Wednesday, 03 December 08 - 06:41 PM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

Network marketing is a sink or swim environment. A distributor should persevere or perish. Quitting is the surest way to fail. Staying on and improving the required skills can increase a distributor's survival for success.

Here are three important network-marketing secrets that a new distributor must learn to be able to grow in the business.

Avoiding Rejection

Network marketing is among the most fun and rewarding business concepts around. However, network-marketing individuals are always faced with challenges. Common of these challenges is rejection. Even the most experienced network-marketing distributor can be brought down by the most lethal psychological incident that is called rejection.

Everyone hates being rejected especially if the rejection would come from long-time friends and family members. But rejection can easily be avoided by newly signed-up distributors by asking help from those who have significant experience in network marketingóthe uplines.

New distributors tend to take rejection personally and will quit the business because of this. It is logical therefore that new distributors should not approach their friends and family for recruitment unless the new distributors have gained enough training and information from their uplines.

Avoiding Management Trap

New and rising network marketing distributors will find that most of their recruits will come from their warm markets their friends and family. However, these same markets can often cause problems that can hurt the new distributors most.

Friends and family members recruited into the business will most likely ask a distributor now an upline to manage their business for them. The distributor can then be caught in the management trap before he or she can even reach his or her targeted income level.

Managing an organization in a network marketing setting is a time-wasting practice that a distributor's recruits should be doing. Codependency can cause a network-marketing group to collapse.

As an upline, a distributor should support the members of the group by being there for them when they ask for guidance and motivational support. But that should be it. Other functions, such as accounting and actual selling among others, should never be done by the upline distributor. Otherwise, the distributor risks losing his or her focus and thus lowering performance itself.

Avoiding Depression

Network marketing calls for upbeat and enthusiastic distributors who can attract other people who want better lives. Quitting or attrition is a common case in network marketing. The disappointment and depression is sure to drain the zeal in most network-marketing distributor.

It is therefore essential for the network-marketing distributor to have the skills to dodge the effects of depression and disappointment. Whenever a distributor feels depressed, he or she should call for upline support and encouragement. Small words of encouragement can go a long way for the success of a network marketer.

It is also important that a network marketer learn how to avoid negative people. A distributor should not waste energy supporting downlines who resist. There is a famous acronym for network marketing distributors worldwide: SW3 Next. It means some will, some won't, so what next?

To uplift a distributor's outlook, he or she must read uplifting books, listen to inspiring audio books, speak and think in positive manner, and above all, focus on the bright future ahead instead of dwelling in past disappointments.

Following these tips can be the difference between a network-marketing distributor's success and demise.

Is Email Marketing No-longer Working for You?

entrecard_avatar.jpg Thursday, 20 November 08 - 10:41 AM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

I don't know about you, but I just despise email. I don't bother to read any of the mail I've opted in for. Weird. Not enough time in a day, I'm afraid. And so I kind of DON'T expect people to read MY mail ... that's why I canceled all my autoresponders. I'm very radical. It's either I love it or I loath it! However, I did open Derek Gehl email yesterday on the subject of email marketing and how to get readers to open the mail in the first place. I tell you this problem is endemic.

Here it is...

In the last issue of "The IMC Insider," I gave you ten tips on how to get your emails into your subscribers' mailboxes. And that's a big step in building those all-important relationships -- the ones that turn your subscribers into buyers... and your buyers into REPEAT buyers.

But getting into the mailbox is pretty much the same as knocking on the door. You're not in there yet!

It seems that one of the biggest problems people are having is getting their readers to OPEN the emails in the first place!

Truth is, you can be promoting the best product in the WORLD, and have the most enticing email copy possible, but if you're not writing compelling subject lines that get the emails opened, all your hard work is lost...

So today I'd like to give you FIVE tips for writing effective email subject lines that can easily DOUBLE the open (and click-through) rates on your next email.

Tip #1: Use personalization for added attention

Ever been in a large crowd, and you suddenly hear your name being called?

Even if you're hundreds of miles away from home and it couldn't possibly be someone calling you, you still look up automatically, without even thinking, right?

Hearing your name instantly gets your attention!

Now imagine how much more powerful your emails could be if your customers could "hear" their names right in the subject line.

Sending out an email with a personalized subject line is the equivalent of calling someone's name in a crowd: it has that same power to grab their attention.

So instead of a subject line that says something like:

"I have the information you're looking for"

... you could try something like this:

"Dave, I have the information you're looking for"

Pretty simple, right? But it really works!

In fact, according to a recent report by MarketingSherpa, by writing personalized subject lines that include the first name of your customers, you can get almost TWICE as many people to open the email and click through to your offer.

And if you wanted to take personalization one step further, consider adding another personal detail to the subject line, like the city your customers live in (you'd need to collect that data from them, of course).

Start with a subject line that looks like this:

"Want to get out of the city this weekend?"

... and then make it really compelling by adding personal details:

"Janet, want to get out of Tucson this weekend?"

And the great thing is that, as long as you're collecting your visitors' first names (and any other data you think is useful), there are plenty of tools out there you can use to automatically merge their names and personal details into your emails.

To see the one we like, check out http://www.marketingtips.com/icontact

Tip #2: Keep your subject lines SHORT

Here's a test: open up your email program, and take a look at the subject lines in your inbox.

Are there any that stand out more than others? Any that you read first, or get you interested in learning more?

Chances are it's the shorter subject lines that grab you, right?

It's actually been proven that subject lines that are less than 35 characters had HIGHER opening and click-through rates than those with subject lines longer than 35 characters.

So keep it short and sweet! You don't need to explain in detail what the email is about in the subject line, you just need to give enough information to make people want to open the email to read more.

And if you REALLY want to increase your open and click-through rates, make sure you put your benefit, offer, or most important element right at the beginning of the subject line.

That way, if someone's email program cuts off the end of the subject line (which is pretty common) you'll still get your main point across.

Tip #3: Keep the formatting simple and understated

If you sent an email to a friend, asking her if she wanted to shopping, would you type your subject line like this:

Would You Like To Go Shopping On Saturday?

Or how about like this:

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO SHOPPING ON SATURDAY?

It's pretty unlikely, right?

So why would your emails to your customers and subscribers have subject lines that were formatted like that?

The more your subject lines look like personal emails from friends, family members, or business associates, the more likely it is that they'll be opened. The more they look like spam, the less effective they'll be.

So avoid capitalizing each word (or the entire subject line), and avoid exclamation marks and dollar signs, which can increase your chances of having your messages flagged as spam, and will be sure to set off warning bells with your recipients.

Tip #4: Use a compelling "angle" to get your readers interested

Of course, getting your readers to open your emails requires more than personalization and formatting. You'll still need to come up with an interesting angle that grabs your customers' attention, and makes them WANT to open the email.

Here are some ideas for subject lines that we've had success with in the past:

    * Make an announcement or share news: People want to be the first to find out new things, especially if your site covers a specific industry.

    * Make your reader curious: Make your reader curious about what's in your email by suggesting they are missing out on an important offer or piece of information.
When you use this technique, make sure you leave something to the imagination. For example: Paul, are you making this common mistake?

    * Create a sense of urgency: Consider creating a sense of urgency in your subject line by limiting time (Frank, only three days left) or quantity (Mary, only 250 copies available).

    * Emphasize benefits: Another powerful approach for your subject line is to state how your readers will benefit from your email. If you can tell them how they're going to save money, save time, make their lives easier, etc, by opening and reading your message, you'll have the most success.

Tip #5: Make sure your subject line relates to the content of the email

Nobody likes to be fooled or tricked, and deception is the WRONG way to earn your customers' trust and respect, so make sure your subject line is related to your actual messages.

(In fact, it's a legal requirement under the CAN-SPAM Act that the subject line be authentic and not misleading).

So if your subject line says Mary, three ways to save money, you need to make sure you actually are talking about that, and preferably within the first few paragraphs. Otherwise, your visitors will feel cheated, and that will hurt your credibility.

By following these simple tips for writing and formatting the subject lines for your emails, you should be able to increase your open rates and click-through rates by up to 50%. And considering your opt-in list is where you'll find your most valuable customers, think how that could crank up your bottom line.

To your success,
Derek Gehl

Hope that helps ... if email marketing is your thing.

Network Marketing - Cross-border Recruiting Tactics For the Avantgarde

entrecard_avatar.jpg Saturday, 13 September 08 - 12:35 AM (GMT +03:00)
By Anthony J Namata in General

Network marketing is perhaps, in my estimation, the best way I know of that can make you money both online and off long-term. Getting rich quick is just a pipe dream. Anybody that promises you overnight wealth (especially for doing nothing) is a big fat liar! That said, what I do like about multi-level marketing is the long-term residual income potential that CAN be realized if you PERSIST and keep on recruiting and helping your team grow with the business. In this article I want to share a couple of useful tips I have picked up along the way. I'm hoping that these little handy insider tips (I wouldn't call them secrets!) can help motivate existing network marketers into taking that leap into the stratosphere - like I did; and to those still searching for a home-based business opportunity, well, maybe this can help you decide?

Let's face it, there are markets out there that are tough to crack. The reasons can be anywhere from widespread skepticism in all things MLM; or just a prevailing lack of hunger to come out of the gutter. I don't know. But people build barriers around themselves sometimes -- as a safety mechanism. My first port of call - if I were to advise you on this, is to take a close look at your geographical location and to gauge its receptiveness to this opportunity. There are, of course, a myriad of ways you can do this, but my absolute favorite is running classified ads in local newspapers. Believe me when I tell you, I have recruited THOUSANDS of new affiliates off the newspapers. Online prospecting doesn't even come close! And this is coming from a man with 10 years experience in online marketing, and yet I still prospect the old fashioned way. Old is gold as they say. And if you're not making any headway, consider looking abroad. Yes! You heard that right. Find newspapers abroad, write to them with a sample of your ad and ask for a quote. It really is that easy. Thanks to the Internet!

Most MLM programs provide you other offline promotional tools like calling cards, flyers, postcards, business cards and so forth. If you want to do the rounds prospecting offline (and online), there's usually everything you need in your program's back office. And here's another pointer: stay in touch with the people you recruit into the business. Again, many programs will give a form of Contact Manager facility with which to reach your entire downline through their built-in genealogy communication system. I use this at least once every single week to disseminate information and to assist and keep my downline motivated. Blogs are great; forums are great; but I've found creating mini eBooks (5 to 10 pages long) on PDF to be extremely effective... because you can isolate the information under different topics / headlines to help them focus on a particular project or idea you have in mind for growing their business; and eBooks are so easy to pass on. You can go viral very quickly with this strategy. I simply love it!

Any online network marketing business can grow exponentially with a little determination, persistence and tenacity. You can't go wrong if you really want it to happen and especially when you think outside the box and do your best to help others on your team succeed with the program. Just allow yourself to drift into your creative zone without fear of failure or retribution. I'm sure you will, eventually, find what works for you, and when you duplicate that through your downline organization, your entire team stands to benefit... and your bottom line, of course.
